Webwalking: A Brain Tickling Bowling Showdown
Came across an incredible trailer online today for a fictitious movie pitting two of the greatest characters in cinema history against each other. Alien vs. Predator? Nope. Try McCracken vs. Jesus.
Obviously a movie that would never see the light of day, but still fun to ponder. It got me thinking about the characters themselves and how they’re arguably the funniest, most distinct characters that John Turturro and Bill Murray each have come up with in their careers. I guess there must be something about bowling that fuels the creation of memorable caricatures. Everyone remembers Lebowski and “the Jesus”, but I think that Kingpin and “Big Ern” are often overlooked.
Such a great montage. Great song too. It’s “Showdown” by the inimitable ELO, captured below in one of the most overstimulating videos that I’ve ever encountered on the web. They say that fashion is cyclical and what today is old, will someday be new again. When that day comes, I vow to be the first guy rocking the facial hair and fro of this guy.
Webwalking: Of Pong and Forty-Hands
Wikipedia has been regularly blowing my mind recently. It amazes me that somewhere out there a person took hours out of their life to compile an exhaustive reference about “hats” or “navel lint”.
Anyway, it came to my attention today that a Wikipedia entry exists for “Dartmouth Pong”, that legendary drinking game on which I’ve spent countless hours and brain cells. Again, I find it very cool that people have taken the time to so accurately document the many modes and facets of binge drinking. In fact, there even exists an entry specifically about binge drinking.
While reading up on binge drinking and its many faces, I came across another good read – this one for “Edward Forty-Hands”. Such a wonderful game — it’s good to see that it’s rules and instructions will be preserved for generations to come. I also enjoyed how they pointed out that “other names for this game include ‘Edward Fo’ty Hands’ and ‘80 Ounces to Freedom’”. At the bottom of the page, they even included a helpful link to the “Aftermath of Edward Forty-Hands” which led to the following informative video. I think that everybody needs a buddy like this. Or maybe not:
If you’re like me, you really enjoyed the frosty beats in the background, which led me to the final stop on today’s webwalking tour:
It’s pretty rare that I randomly come across a website as random and rad as this. I think that the world would be a much better place if there were more people like this, walking around in yellow space suits and laying down buttery beats about lonely fish, unmotivated robots, and mechanical lumberjacks. I salute you Mr. Ambassador.
